Plan NH to present Sustainability 101: Seeing the Forest and the Trees workshop on January 19

Each of us who works within the built environment has an idea of what sustainability is. Most of us think of air quality, green building materials, saving wetlands, protecting wildlife … but is that enough? If New Hampshire’s built environment is to be truly sustainable, what does that mean?

Please join Plan New Hampshire as we engage in a fun, interactive workshop designed to help us think comprehensively about this critical issue. Led by Bert Cohen,

  • Participants will be introduced to the framework of sustainability, and the notion of it as a system. What are the basic conditions of the framework that we need to take into consideration for a sustainable state?
  • Collectively gauge where we are – as individuals, as professions – within this system and where we need to go;
  • Through small group discussions, assess existing personal and professional skills and knowledge that do and could contribute to a sustainable built environment;
  • Determine, from the system point of view, which of those skills and knowledge bases can be leverage points to move forward the mission of a sustainable built environment.

At the end of this introductory workshop, participants will have a cohesive – personal and collective- view of what sustainability means here in New Hampshire as well as a renewed sense of purpose for our work within the built environment.
